IDC’s Recent Worldwide Enterprise Videoconferencing Report

Last month, the IDC Worldwide Enterprise Videoconferencing and Telepresence Qview reported that the industry had grown by 14.4 percent in Q1 of 2012. While some companies (like Polycom) reported declines, we’ve been seeing positive trends.

The reason: Business expense and productivity improvements (both bottom line contributors) are motivating businesses to look at new technologies and solutions to enable and improve collaboration, even as employees and partners work remotely.  That is why videoconferencing is a natural solution since it helps to reduce travel and expense related costs, while making employees more productive (when in and out of the office).

The historical challenge with videoconferencing has been the expense of purchasing and supporting these products (such as conference room and telepresence solutions). With the emergence of reliable, economical, scalable and secure unified communications and personal videoconferencing solutions (such as commercial grade desktop videoconferencing), the videoconferencing industry now must provide solutions that quickly meet these business objectives while demonstrating a compelling ROI.

From Avistar’s perspective, we’re seeing cross-industry growth.  Technology partners and Fortune 2000 clients trend to focus on the larger unified communications platforms while small- and medium-sized businesses are adopting both on-premises and hosted videoconferencing solutions.

As IDC outlines in their report, the trends for our industry look promising, and the reasons for selecting and purchasing commercial grade personal videoconferencing solutions are clear and compelling, especially from a business perspective.
