The Avistar Board of Directors has substantial experience in the creation of new companies and management of large enterprises. The Avistar Board of Directors includes:

Dr. Gerald J. Burnett, Chairman
Burnett, one of the company’s founders, has been Chairman of Avistar since March 2000. He has been CEO of Avistar and a director of Collaboration Properties, Inc., since 1998. Previously, he was a director of Avistar and has held directorships at both Vicor, Inc., and Western Data Systems. Burnett was also President of Teknekron, a group of technology companies, and is one of the founders of Vicor, Inc. In addition to possessing a B.S. and an M.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in electrical engineering and computer science, Burnett also holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University in computer science and communications. He is a member of MIT’s Corporation (Board of Trustees) and a founding member of the McGovern Institute Leadership Board at MIT.

William L. Campbell, Director
Campbell is one of our founders and the Director of Strategic Development. From July 2005 until September 2007 he served as the Chief Operating Officer, and prior to that he was the Executive Vice President from March 2000 until 2005. He has been Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Collaboration Properties, Inc. since 1998. He has been Chairman of Vicor, Inc., since 1994 and a director since 1989. Campbell holds a B.S. in general engineering from the U.S. Military Academy and an M.S. in management from the Sloan School of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Craig F. Heimark, Director
Heimark has been the Managing Partner of the Hawthorne Group, a strategic advisory firm focused on equity consulting to high growth IT and financial companies, since 1998. During 2000 and 2001, Heimark provided consulting services to the company. From 1990 to 1997, he served in various capacities at Swiss Bank Corporation Warburg, the predecessor company to UBS Warburg. Heimark holds a B.A. degree in economics and a B.S. in biology from Brown University.

R. Stephen Heinrichs, Director
Heinrichs is a founder of Avistar and has previously held positions at Avistar as its Vice Chairman, Chief Financial Officer and Secretary. Heinrichs has also been a director of Collaboration Properties, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Avistar. From 1976 through 1989 he was Chief Financial Officer of Teknekron and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of several Teknekron companies. Heinrichs is also one of the founders and and a former director of Vicor, Inc. Heinrichs has also been chairman of Western Data Systems of Nevada, Inc. Heinrichs holds a B.S. from California State University, Fresno, in accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Dr. Robert M. Metcalfe, Director
Dr. Metcalfe, an MIT engineer, Harvard mathematician, Stanford professor, 3Com founder, Cambridge fellow, InfoWorld pundit, National Technology medalist, and now General Partner with Polaris Ventures Partners since 2001.  Bob graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1969 with two bachelor degrees, in electrical engineering and in industrial management. He received a master in applied mathematics from Harvard University in 1970 and in 1973 his Ph.D. in computer science for his dissertation, Packet Communication.  Bob was an Internet pioneer, inventing Ethernet in 1973 while an engineer-scientist at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center 1972-1979.  During Dr. Metcalfe’s entrepreneur-executive phase at 3Com Corporation (1979-1990), he founded, IPOed, and grew the organization into a billion-dollar networking company, serving in various capacities including Chairman, CEO, division GM, and VP of engineering, sales, marketing, and strategy.  3Com merged with HP in 2010.  Bob is a director of Polaris-backed start-ups including 1366 Technologies, Ember, Infinite Power Solutions, SiOnyx, and Sun Catalytix.  Bob also serves as a director-trustee-advisor to not only Avistar Communications, but to USC Stevens, X Prize Foundation, and MIT’s Corporation, Energy Initiative, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Department of Chemistry, Department of Mathematics, and Deans of Engineering and Science.

Bob Kirk, Director
Kirk joined Avistar as CEO in July 2009 and is responsible for the company’s strategic vision and advancement of its mission and objectives. Fueled by his extensive experience as a successful CEO, Kirk’s goal is to ensure the growth of Avistar within the quickly expanding unified communications and videoconferencing industries. Kirk most recently served as the CEO of ChoicePay. Previously to ChoicePay, Kirk served as CEO of VICOR, Inc. where he led VICOR’s successful expansion and subsequent sale to Metavante Corporation. He holds an MBA in Business Management and a Bachelors degree from West Virginia University.
