Avistar CTO Dr. Chris Lauwers to Speak at VoiceCon on Quality of Service, November 2
Tools to Manage Bandwidth to be Discussed in San Francisco;
Avistar Exhibiting at Booth 620
SAN FRANCISCO, October 29, 2009 – Dr. Chris Lauwers, chief technology officer at Avistar Communications Corporation (www.avistar.com), a leader in unified visual communications solutions, will be speaking on a panel at VoiceCon San Francisco 2009.
The panel, “Quality of Service (QoS) & Quality of Experience (QoE): Ensuring Voice (and other Applications') Performance,” is scheduled for 9:00 a.m.–10:45 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 2 in Room 132 at the Moscone North Convention Center.
Dr. Lauwers, who holds an M.S. and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science from Stanford University and a recognized expert in applications-‘based bandwidth management, will participate in a discussion designed to help enterprise users understand network and infrastructure challenges associated with running voice, video, and data applications that require varying levels of priority at different times, while still ensuring QoS and QoE.
The panel will be moderated by John Bartlett, Principal, NetForecast, a leading authority on real-time traffic, application performance and QoS techniques.
“Because of the real-time requirements, Unified Communications can put a significant amount of strain on enterprise IP networks and their associated infrastructure,” said Dr. Lauwers. “For organizations to confidently deploy Unified Communications as an enterprise technology, especially when used with visual communications, administrators need the necessary tools and technology to effectively manage the associated infrastructure and overhead. Without such tools and advance planning, administrators will have a difficult time managing their network infrastructure while trying to ensure they can meet their end users expectations with regard to quality of experience and service.”
